The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) presented bursary awards to children of GAWU members. Over the past years, the union has been awarding the best performing children of GAWU’s members in the National Grade Six Examinations.
Two separate activities were held at the union’s offices in New Amsterdam, Berbice and Georgetown on August 25, 2017 whereby the monetary awards to the successful students in the presence of their parents were handed out.
In his message to the students at the Demerara ceremony in Georgetown, the President of GAWU, Comrade Komal Chand congratulated the students on their achievements and also congratulated their parents whose support and encouragement he stressed must have greatly assisted the students. He advised the students noting the importance of education to continue to acquire higher learning as they enter secondary school in the new school term in September. He also told the students that GAWU is pleased and proud to award the bursaries as the Union recognizes their success at the National Grade Six examinations and wishes to encourage them to continue to diligently pursue their studies for greater attainments. Comrade Harvey Tambron, Vice President of GAWU, who spoke at the Berbice Awards Ceremony also expressed similar sentiments.
Altogether twenty (20) students received twenty-three (23) bursaries of which three (3) were awarded by the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union Co-operative Credit Union Society Limited.
