Shop stewards and several workers of Blairmont Estate yesterday morning (August 15, 2022) staged a picketing exercise calling for an improvement in the management of the sugar company. The workers highlighted that they have seen the performance of the estate declining and it appeared to them that the current management team cannot grapple with the challenges.
The workers shared that the situation prevails when the Government is actively supporting the industry. They remain highly appreciative of the Administration’s support, but they believe that the management team is letting the Government down. Many remarked that they have not ever seen the estate at such a poor level. This they contended reflects the performance of the current management.
The workers are calling for changes from the management to begin from the top of the Corporation. They shared their belief the current direction emanates from the head of the sugar company and the current direction is heavily influenced by that level. The workers are hoping that better sense can prevail and that the Corporation treats them with respect rather than seeking to alienate them.
