This morning (March 16, 2021), a number of workers of Uitvlugt Estate, prior to the commencement of work, staged a picketing exercise outside of the estate demanding that the Guyana Sugar Corporation Inc (GuySuCo) to end its procrastination regarding wage/salary discussions between the Union and the Corporation. Like their colleagues of Albion and Blairmont, the Uitvlugt workers are peeved that though they have expressed a willingness to find a settlement the GuySuCo continues to engage in delaying tactics for some unknown reason/s.

The workers lamented that the GuySuCo hierarchy has taken their cooperative attitude for granted. They shared that they have learnt that while they are asked to be patient they are learning that some in the top brass of the sugar company may be engaged self aggrandizement. This the workers pointed out does not send a positive message and undermines the calls for cooperation.

The Uitvlugt workers underscored their willingness to engage the Corporation meaningfully in finding an amicable settlement to the long standing issues. They are like their colleagues of Albion and Blairmont hopeful that the Corporation could come to its senses and serious talks could begin in earnest with a view to finding a solution.
