The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers’ Union (GAWU) extends warm greetings and best wishes to all Guyanese, particularly our Hindu brothers and sisters, on the joyous occasion of Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
Diwali reminds us that light will always overcome darkness, knowledge will overcome ignorance, and good will triumph over evil. This message is a source of hope for a nation still working toward unity and shared prosperity.
Diwali began as a harvest festival, a time to give thanks for the fruits of the land and to pray for better yields ahead. As a union rooted in agriculture, with a proud membership of Hindus and Guyanese of every background, GAWU is deeply conscious of this link between the spiritual and the working life of our people.
Diwali is also now celebrated by all of Guyana, and that is something to be proud of. As families light their diyas, share sweets and open their homes, let us carry that same spirit of peace, compassion and respect into our workplaces, communities and national life.
Let the light of Diwali guide us toward justice for workers, fair rewards for honest labour, and a Guyana in which everyone can share in the nation’s progress.
We wish everyone a safe, peaceful and joyous Diwali. May the festival bring health, happiness and prosperity to every home.
Happy Diwali!
